In the Arms of the Angels - Sweet Peace Retha

There are times in my life that I just hate being a grown up. Friday night was one of those times. I logged in to my favorite online community (Prim Mart) only to find out that a lady from that message board had been brutally murdered - allegedly by her husband. I saw the post headings and wasn't sure what was going on. What? No! How can this be? After reading the news articles and watching a news clip, there was no doubt it was true!

I didn't know Retha very well, but had spoken to her several times on the phone and in the chat room. I can still hear her voice. How can someone that is supposedly your best friend do something like this? To kill, dismember, burn and throw your body out like last weeks garbage? I know we can mentally snap. I get that. But to hear what happened to Retha makes me sick. I pray that Retha felt no pain and had no idea what was happening to her. Whoever did this horrific crime will one day stand in judgement. But in the meantime, I hope Retha is safely in the arms of the Angels.

Thank you for the chats Retha - you will be missed!

Sunday's Mixed Blessings

Today was a mixed blessing kind of day. I put on a brave face because of all the activities we had going, but now as I sit down to unwind, the emotions are kickin' in. Sadness is setting in. Today at a special voter's meeting at our church, a motion passed to close our daycare and PreK-8 day school at the end of the school year. The school has been open for 43 years. I attended the school K-8 and my children have been there for the past seven years.

Now in all honesty, we decided to pull our kids from the school at semester this year, after several years of prayerful consideration. This was NOT a decision that came easily or quickly as I was not just an alumni, but a member of the congregation for 37 yrs. I served as the PTS President for three consecutive years and this year was hired in as Admissions Counselor. My husband served as Athletic Director for three years and also soccer coach. Our heart and soul went into this school - so leaving was gut wrenching. But even though we chose to leave the school, we remain at the church.

The vote today was hard. First there are a couple teachers that are family friends and are priceless to us (YOU know who you are if you're reading this!). To think of them out of a job is distressing. Yet there are so many changes that need to be made to better the school. Not to mention financially, the church cannot support the school any longer. Although not having the school will mean more $$ to go to other ministries, it's still hard knowing that there will be no more school. I do hope souls in the congregation are willing to rebuild a bigger and better school and reopen in a couple years. If we can excel above the public school, my children will be back.

So today began with an unknown future open to possibilities, and now it ends with a closing of one door and a key to opening another door full of possibilities. May God be with us all on our journey through the future!

OUCH~ My WhoHa Hurts

Got your attention huh? Well you read right. Maybe I shouldn't post about this but ya know what? Ya'll need a warning. Omgosh. Yesterday I decided to ride around the block on my bicycle (4 1/4 miles) instead of running half of it. Confession time, it's been years since I've biked. So as soon as I pushed off my thought was, "oh $*#& hope I didn't forget"!!

Nope, didn't forget how to ride a bike. But did forget how uncomfortable it is if you don't have a good cushioned seat. I got up this morning and stopped by the bathroom and WHOA. Oh my whoha hurt. Not the UTI type of pain. The tender to the touch type. The sad part, it wasn't from a night of lovin' with the hubby, it was from the bike ride. I knew last night the underside of my butt cheeks were sore, but not another area. Think today I'll jog instead!

Tip about bike riding: GET A GOOD CUSHIONED SEAT or wear a thick pad or Depends unless you want your whoha to hurt the next day! ;)

Take That Roundness

This was this mornings weigh in. Dang my feet look like Fred Flintstones. Now before I get yelled at, I know I'm not overweight, but I AM out of shape. For my 4' 11" frame, that's not where I want to be. I'd like to be an in-shape 103. That's why I'm posting here. Hoping that you'll help motivate me to keep up the workouts. If I don't post what I've done at least three times each week, send me a comment reminding me to get my chookus off the couch!

Since January, the families been eating healthier & we love it! Brad & I have gone back and forth with the P90X workout but have only managed to make it 4 days in a row before we get busy with the kids. So we've decided to work out as we can and not focus on doing it together. Since I'm at home, it will be morning/afternoon workouts before the kiddos get home. The eating healthier and random workouts, I've gone from 115 in January to the weight on today's scale. So it hasn't been too bad. I just need to stay on track. My goal is to accomplish this by the end of April - just in time for baseball games to start! No more roundness son!

Watch Out Wednesday

Today I got up in a good mood. Yes, that chalkboard hangs on our family room wall. But by my second cup of coffee, the ugly monster reared her head. Da** PMS! Someone needs to change the meaning of PMS. It's not always pre, sometimes it's post, sometimes during. Ugg. It was the grumpiness that got me. Why today? Didn't Mother Nature know I had to make St.Patrick's Day Oreo Truffles for the Lenten dinner at our church? The balls went together quick and easy until it came time for the coating. Truth moment - I didn't follow Jessica's directions. I opted for almond bark instead of the white baking chips. MISTAKE! The coating kept hardening too fast. Seriously you're giving me this %**& today? The lumpy green gunk went into the garbage and I was off to the store. Learn from my mistake - USE WHITE BAKING CHIPS!

Sent this picture to my husband and he said they looked like a Leprechaun had visited... can't be mad, he's right. The second set turned out better - but forgot to take a pic.

I was still grumpy so instead of hitting the treadmill, I hit the road. The sun was shining and it was warm. Figured two for the price of pain. Go for a jog while sunning my blues away.
I jogged for what I thought was only a mile and wondered why my time was so far off what I do on the treadmill. It didn't take long to tick me off more at that moment. No more roadwork. The treadmill will be my best friend. While trying to run off the bad mood, my son's bus went by. I asked him if I looked like a dork? My wonderful 6th grader says, "No. But not to be rude mom, you looked kinda round." Thanks for the motivation son, now run away fast! I took my bruised ego downstairs to finish my workout with the P90X Ab Ripper.

When I complained bit***d to Brad about how painstaking the jog was, he said, "Hun, you ran 2 1/2 miles!" ??? After I heard that, my mood totally changed. I had jogged longer and faster then on the treadmill and did the ab workout. Take that roundness!

P.S. The truffles were a hit. Was asked to make them again for next weeks Lenten dinner. Think maybe purple color?

*Do you get pre, post, during or all month long PMS?
*What do you do to combat it?
*Have you had one of those honest moments with your kids?
*Do you have good luck with almond bark?
*What color coating should I use for the truffles?

Beautiful Sunrise

"Look at the beautiful sunrise!" That's what the kids said to me this morning. Honestly, I went out thinking "a sunrise is a sunrise". But you know what? It was so much more. My mood turned around with merely a step onto the porch and one look at that painted sky. Spring fever began to creep inside my soul! Maybe I'm sappy, but I DON'T CARE because it's beautiful outside! The glow was so much prettier then my camera actually shows. *Note to Brad, need a new camera!

It was so nice out the kids convinced me to let them go to school without a coat. Don't you just love seeing shadows? Well, the kids were off to school and you know what I did? I took some me time! I poured a hot cup of coffee, sliced a piece of pumpkin roll and sat on the front porch. I listened to the birds sing, let the sun warm my cheeks and relaxed. I am a sappy, relaxed woman!

P.S.
Yes Sheila, I will walk on the treadmill to burn off that slice of heaven!

God's Little Notes

If the warm sunshine and birds singing wasn't enough to brighten the day, I found these little notes from God while searching online. Have a blessed day!

Yummy Indulgences!

I love coffee! I love a strong fresh coffee but not the flavored bean kind. You know like a French Vanilla ground that you put into your pot. I do however love the specialty coffees from Starbucks, Coffee Beanery & Tim Horton's - like the Cafe Mocha, White Chocolate Mocha, etc. I'm too cheap to buy it though. Pretty much the only time I splurge on one is Black Friday shopping with my husband. Figure if we're spending $$, we'll lay down a $5 for an indulgence for ourselves. I also like the frozen coffees. Yes, they are calorie filled, but oh so good! Well, my mom found a recipe for frozen coffee that you can do at home. It was super easy, cheap and ALL MINE!

Frozen Viennese Coffee

Brew a STRONG pot of coffee. Pour in a pan and freeze.

Scrape the frozen coffee to create flakes/chunks.

Now pour in sweetened condensed milk to taste. I used maybe 1 Tbsp. b/c I like the strong coffee flavor.

Mix and enjoy!

Green M & M's

Look what I found! A bag of all green M&M's. So being a thoughtful & considerate wife, I bought them for me but gave them to Brad. Remember as a kid having a favorite color, and even though it didn't really taste different, in your head it did? Each color had a meaning. Well I'm sure you've heard the meaning behind the green ones. So what do you think? If it's true I should probably go buy this mom another bag!

*What's your favorite color of M&M?
*Do you like plain or peanut?
*If the meaning was true, who would you buy the bag for, you, hubby or both of you?!

I Gave In...

and went to the after hours clinic yesterday. Wednesday's flu turned into a head cold. Brad kept telling me to go to the dr. but I was too stubborn. Mom's don't have time to get sick. Right Mom's?

Can someone tell me where all the snot comes from? Seriously, you can blow and it's gone. Then by the time you throw the tissue away, you have to blow again. This may sound strange but have you ever blown your nose and as you're blowing the blow comes to a sudden stop? Ouch! It's like the snot just ran out and you blew your dry nose. You know what I mean? Shoot, I had it once I felt like I had been swimming all day and couldn't get the "water" out of my ear.

So what was the outcome for this stubborn mom? A double ear and sinus infection bordering on bronchitis. Way to go ding bat. Today I'll pick up my prescription since it was going to take an hour to fill and I had to get home to watch the Bachelor finale! Can't believe I gave up the prescription for that ending. Tenley was my favorite out of the two. But honestly I was hoping he'd dump them both and reunite with Alli. Vienna? Really? Jake, Jake, Jake...

*Do you put off going to the dr.?
*Did you watch the Bachelor?
*Which lady were you voting for?
