Sit A Spell

As I was sitting in class a couple weeks ago, I found myself wondering why people sit where they do? Some people are front and center, some hiding in the back row, while others sit smack dab in the middle. And then there are those that play musical chairs all semester. I am a back row person. Why? I asked myself that very question. What is the reason I am sitting in the back row? It is so I can people watch. It is fascinating to see what other people are wearing, how they style their hair, their fingernail polish, their shoes, back packs. It's fun to try to imagine who they are by what they are wearing and where they sit in class. So I realized that I don't sit in back to hide from having to answer questions (because I have gotten a lot more confident & do verbally participate in class), but it's to people watch.

Where do you sit in class? Or at church? Or at a meeting? Why do you sit where you do?

Officially A Junior!

I am officially a Junior in College! Wow, I never thought I would say that. But this 40 yr old is damn proud of this accomplishment. Here's to stumbling upon a crazy life for the next 2 more years.

Sweet Tea

Found this recipe online and can't wait to try it!

Perfect Sweet Tea. (makes 1 gallon)
(Adapted from the Lone Star Steak House)

Ingredients -
5 - 8 Family size Tea Bags. (or 12 regular Tea Bags)
( I prefer #1 Luzianne or #2 Liptons Brand Teas.)
1 Quart (4 Cups) - Boiling Water
3 Quarts (12 cups) - Cool Water
1 1/2 - 2 (one & a half) - Cups Sugar.
1/4 teaspoon - Baking Soda (this IS the SECRET Ingredient!!)

Directions -
1. Sprinkle baking soda into a pitcher (I use a gallon-size Mason Jar but many people have voiced concerns about pouring boiling water into a glass container, so use whatever container you'd like)
Add Tea bags to the pitcher/baking soda,
Pour Boiling water over tea bags,
Cover and allow to steep for 15 minutes.
~*~
2. Remove and toss out Tea Bags,
Add Sugar and Stir until completely dissolved.
Add Cool Water.
Refrigerate until cold and ready to drink.
~*~
3. Serve over ice,
Take a nice long sip.
Swoon.
Repeat.

Run Logged

I did it! I got my arse off the couch and put in my run. Not the best, but not the worst. At least I did it and it feels fantastic! Now to finish my Literature exam paper.

Bucket List Wish Checked Off

I have wanted a nose piercing for YEARS and finally did it. It has been almost 2 months since I checked this off my bucket list. So glad I did. I love it!

Final Exams - YIKES

Final exams are here. UGG! I had History Monday, Linguistics today,  Literature tomorrow and Spanish on Monday. For today, the picture says it all.

Gonna Do It

Get off your ass I going to get my ass out the door & start training again. Yes, I slacked, got off track and put on ten pounds while loosing some of my muscle strength. But thankfully I am a fighter and have determination to get my bootie back in gear and on the road to success again! Life is about stumbling and getting back up and Lord knows the year I've had. But what's that saying, fall down 7 times stand up 8. I don't know what stumbling blocks will be under my feet even in the next week, but one thing I am sure of is that I am strong and will be continue on as long as I am able to.

Happy 12-12-12

Or as my kids say, Happy 36. May today bring you luck and joy. Happy 12-12-12 - enjoy it!

Things That Make You Go Hmmm...

I saw this sign today as I was driving to the doctor. It was too funny to not turn around and take a picture. Take a closer look at the little sign!

Welcome Home Elves

Even my oldest son (15 in January) is happy to see the magic of the Elves back. Please excuse the patched walls. I am repainting the living room. Welcome home Elves, welcome home!

The Elves are Back!

You know it's Christmas time when the Elves come back. They arrived today with a Christmas tree for the kids. Since the new carpet should be installed any day now, we were undecided whether to get a real or fake tree this year. Dear Ole Santa decided for us. He sent a real tree along with the four little elves. The kids were so excited because the jolly fat man also sent along four ornaments. After all, a tree needs ornaments! Tis the season for Elf mischief.

40 yrs Young!

Today is my 40th birthday! I celebrate in spirit with my Guardian Angel, my bday buddy - my Gpa Gail!

Despite my post last night, I woke up feeling great. IDK! I tossed and turned all night and finally got up about 7:15. When I walked out there was all kinds of decorations put up around the house and outside. B & the kids got up around 2am and decorated. It looked fabulous & put a big smile on my face. I had a cup of coffee, searched the web a bit, checked email, then went for my run. Happy birthday to me, had my best time in a long time. Not the best, but for me, 3.7 miles in 29 mins is great!!!

When I got back, the kids had breakfast and another cup of coffee for me. They had an egg white omelet with spinach and mushrooms, a slice of toast and raspberries. YUM, best breakfast ever!

Then they had me open my gifts and each one was perfect. Even though I was dreading it being my bday (not because of turning 40, just because can't celebrate how I wanted), it is turning out to be great.

My parents even stopped by on their way home from Dad's physical therapy (rehab from brain aneurysms). He couldn't make it up the porch stairs but did walk on the grass for his first time since the brain surgeries. WTG Dad, so proud of you!!!! That made my birthday also.

Now off to do my homework, then run the girls to their sleepover. I don't think I'm going for the tattoo, not enough time. That's ok, there's always another day. I can add that to my 40th bucket list which I will post later.

Thanks for listening to me vent yesterday!

Five Question Friday

1. What's the one thing you buy every time you walk into the store?
Gum (Stride Spark, peppermint. Now Stride has new flavor, Stride ID)

2. If you had a day all to yourself how would you spend it?
At my parents cabin on the lake, looking online, drinking coffee and sitting at a campfire.
3. Are you a speed limit driver? If not, over or under?
I tend to go about 5 over, so I've learned to set the cruise to keep on speed.
4. What's your favorite dessert to make, homemade or from a mix??
Hmm? Either double chocolate chunk brownies (from a box) or Oatmeal/choc.chip/butterscotch chip/cinnamon cookies (homemade).

5. Would you rather have a spider or a mouse scurry across your face (no copping out and saying "neither!!")?
A spider definitely! Ick though!

Five Question Friday

Today is Five Question Friday. If you want to follow along, just copy/paste the questions onto your blog and link up. Have a great day & weekend!

1} What do you call them- flip flops, sandals, thongs, or slippers?

Flip flops I wear in the summer as casual when I can't be barefoot. And I wear them as long into the Fall as I can and as early as I can in the Spring. Sandals I wear if I dress up (which is not often!). Thongs are what you wear under your pants. Slippers are what you wear around the house when you don't want to wear socks.

2} Are you a "my kids can do no wrong" kind of mom or a "Johnny punched you? Well what did you do to him first?!" kind of mom?

I am definitely a "what did you do to him first" kind of mom! My children are great, but I know they are not perfect. If they explain their part in the situation I will explain the life lesson and apologize if they were in the wrong.
3} Would you confront a good friend that looked/looks down on your husband/significant other?

Yes I have.

4} Biggest pet peeve?

I have so many, but my biggest would probably have to be belching and farting. I know we all have gas. People just let it rip and I have to suffer in the cloud of fumes. YUCK!
5} What's your favorite take out meal?

Does McDonald's and Taco Bell Count? If so it would be them because it's so frequent. But if they are just fast food, then I would go with a loaded pizza. Everything on it minus pineapple & anchovies.

Life Is Uncertain

life is uncertain so live in the moment and make each day count Life is so uncertain. I posted today about how shitty my life is and my mom called a little bit after that to let me know that my dad was being admitted to the hospital for tests. She had taken him to the er last Monday and they gave him pain and nausea meds and let him sleep then released him wo any testing. He continued to have extreme pain, headaches, coldness and sleepiness. Doc finally said go to er after seeing him today. They are waiting to do a cat scan and other testing. If I could change places with my father right now, I would in a second. Seeing him this week how bundled up in winter clothes he was, despite it being high 90's in MI., showed me something wrong. Besides, he was not grumpy so he was definitly not feeling well. :)

Life can change in a moment. I know that and this reminds me of it. Makes me wonder what else will come my way. My future is unwritten and I am the author. So maybe this is the wake up I need to finally stand up and life MY life for the moment!

New Tattoo

I finally made the leap and got a tattoo. One thing off my bucket list. And for me, getting a tattoo was something that I would NEVER do. Never say never, right? I decided on December 8th that I was going after work, all by myself and braving the needle. I texted my good friend Sheila in MN and told her what I was doing and that no one knew where or what I was up to. She was there for me the whole way. It was easy and painless! I was very proud of myself!

After only two weeks I found out why it didn't hurt. It's because they didn't go deep enough. The tattoo started to fade in that short of a time. I braved it again and this time they went deep enough. Holy crap it hurt! Not anything I couldn't stand, but OMGosh, it was easier the first time.

I am going back for another. I just can't decide what I want. Either a small cross on the back of my neck or "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" across my c-section scar.

I am open for ideas too!
