Breakfast

The girls & their bff (my 'favorite other daughter') made me scrambled eggs w/Gouda cheese, spinach, mushrooms & hot sauce, Hawaiian toast & coffee w/whipped cream & chocolate sprinkles. One of the best breakfasts ever! I luv these girls! They are the best! Thank u sweethearts!

Reviewing LouAna Coconut Oil




So I decided to jump on the coconut oil bandwagon. I have read all the supposed benefits ranging from whiter teeth, softer hair, fewer wrinkles, excellent shaving oil and more and decided to give it a try.

First, I put the oil on my feet then covered them with socks last night before bed. It took a lot for me to do the socks because I am claustrophobic wearing socks to bed makes me feel trapped. Stop laughing! Anyways, my heels were much softer! No joke!

Next try is the oil as a conditioner. I slathered it on my hair, concentrating on the ends, threw it in a pony tail & traveled off to dreamland. It shampooed out easily today & my hair does feel a little softer. I will try it again throughout the rest of the week and weekend to see if it helps my dry locks.

Third test: shaving. I normally use Coochy Shave Cream by Pure Romance because it leaves my legs smooth & free of razor burn. But after trying the coconut oil today, I think I will spend $6 per tube of oil then $20 for the Coochy. The draw back was rinsing the razor more often which no biggie. Some benefits to the coconut oil are easy shaving of the delicate areas, :) no razor burn and best yet, no need to apply lotion after the shower because they are still moisturized!

Now to try some of the other homemade remedies. Let's hope it works as well on wrinkles as it did my legs!
 

Gross!

So I didn't take a picture, but maybe I should have for effect. Or better yet, not because its gross! On my way in to school today I saw a long, black hair extension on the sidewalk. Maybe you won't thing anything about it, I mean, its just 'fake' hair. But I think it's icky!

Update: as I was walking out to my car after classes, guess what? The extension was GONE!

Five Question Friday



1. Flu mist? Flu shot? Or take your chances?
I am a take your chances girl. The last time I got a flu shot I was the sickest I have ever been. I thought maybe coincidence and tried it one more time. Same story. Nope, not getting the shots. If I'm going to get the flu, then I will without the pain of a shot!

2. Do your kids have iPads? What are some good educational apps? Price?
My son and I have a tablet, no iPad. Honestly, I have no idea what apps are out there. My kids would know, but I have only messed with the tablet 2x since Christmas. Sorry I wasn't much help!

3. What are your favorite boy/girl baby names?
If I can't use my kids names, then here is my pick:
For a girl: Katherina (my great, great Gma's name)
For a boy: IDK? Maybe Ian or Jackson 

4. If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, which apple do you choose to eat? (red/green, gala, red delicious...)
My favorite is a Granny Smith. Love the tart yet sweet flavor.

5. What is your favorite place to escape to for peace & quiet, to think? Why? Unfortunately I don't have one here at my house. I need to reclaim my bedroom from the catch-all spot is has been for 12 years. But if I can choose the deck at our family's lake house, that would be it. I love the sound of the activity on the water. My favorite time is sitting on the deck first thing in the morning with a cup of coffee, no one up yet, fog still on the lake and the loons talking. Perfect for thinking & relaxing!

Slippery Run & Body Revolution Day 3, Phase 1 - Cardio

Cardio 1

Today I did road work then the Cardio 1. Wow, must've been my brain not working due to lack of caffeine this morning because I didn't think about the roads being icy. I did a different route and realized doing hills was not such a good idea with patches of black ice. So my time was slower and surely not easy. Half the time I was zig zagging to find crunchy snow patches along the side of the road. Then I got down to the end of the road and whoops, I had to go back up that hill. OH CRAP! All that went around in my head was "this old lady is going to bust her ass - again!" Yes, I broke my tailbone 2 yrs ago trying to snowboard with my kids. Needless to say, I slipped and slided my way safely home to do Jillian's Cardio 1. It was great! The hardest part was doing the 3 suicide runs for 1 minute each. I am really loving the workouts. Jillian is motivating and even funny. She makes the time go quickly. Looking forward to another butt whopping tomorrow!

Phase 1 Workout 2 - Check!


Workout 2 (weights, Resistance cable)

"Continue building your foundation with classic “back of the body” moves that work your back, biceps, glutes, hamstrings and core using your weights, a resistance cable and your own body weight. Like Workout 1, strength, balance and stability are the goal as you burn mega calories."

Day two off & running - literally!  Today was easier then the first day of P90, but maybe that's because I am still in half way good shape, or maybe because the workout was easier, I don't know. I'm a little sore, but not hurting enough to say heck no to a butt kicking from the toughest trainer. Today I switched it up and logged my 2.5 miles then did the 30 min workout. I found that running before my workouts was much easier. Can't wait to do my workout again. I miss the strong girl I was a year ago. Thanks Jillian for the motiviation!

My Happy New Year Post!

Life is so uncertain. We never know from day to day, year to year what is in store for us. What we do know is life happens. Here's wishing that 2013 be a better year then 2012. May you find all the things that make you happy and smile. Be adventurous and not regret. Never look back, look forward with a smile because of the life lessons you were taught this last year. Each occurrence in life is a reason for growth. We are exactly were we are supposed to be. It may not be where we thought it would be, but it's exactly where God intended us to be at this precise moment. I am thankful for the friends and family that have been here for me through all my ups and downs over the past several years. To the friends and family that have not, thank you for my life lesson, class dismissed.

This last year was surely my most challenging year ever, but not all was bad. There were many moments that made me laugh. While other times there were many tears shed. And because of all the times of great happiness and sadness, I am forever changed. Although I would rather have not experienced the grief and challenges, I have learned to "stand and be strong". I really am a strong girl who is valuable and worth a life of happiness. It's okay to let go of those people in your life that hold you down, even if they are family. I've learned that family isn't just blood or by law. Family are the people still there for you when everyone else walks out.

Maybe I'm not exactly where I'd like to be right now, or have the love/respect of family and friends given back to me as I have given to them, but I know it's okay & time to just let go. I've been stumbling upon life as God intended and hope to stumble along the right road this new year.

Read a book a month (and not a school book)
Each month, eat at a restaurant I've never been to before

Organize the house one room at a time

The first day was great. The video was easy, motivating and had me wishing Jillian was actually in my basement beside me telling me it's worth it. So I have done the P90 program and loved it. Yes it was challenging. I didn't follow the food nor did the double workouts with exception of one video a day combined with running on the road. But it's the new year, new changes and I wanted a change up in my fitness. When I saw Jillian Michael's Body Revolution, I decided to give it a try. I am not following the food plan strictly, but plan to use most of the recipes. For the first time ever, I am writing down the food I eat in the journal. I'm not calculating the calories, but am monitoring it. Yesterday was the first day, but I found myself not munching or sneaking snacks because I didn't want to write it down, and I don't want to cheat on my fitness goal. Looking forward to each new workout.
