Five Question Friday

1. How often should adults have birthday parties?
In my opinion, on the big ones like 30, 40, 50... But if you're like me, I hate being the focal point, so I would die of embarrassment for a bday party for me. BUT, and that's a BIG BUT, I DO want people to call, text or email me to let me know they remembered. Not frickin ignore me and then have a big open house party for another family member the next day!

2. What was your room decorated like when you were a child?
My two sisters and I would take turns switching rooms. So it was either the pink room or blue room and my Precious Moments collection and inspirational posters that I got from the Scholastic Book Orders.

3. Do you have any traditions for Easter? If so, what? and do you have a why behind that?
We color Easter Eggs and this year, I'm so excited, we are coloring them with our best friends at their house! OMGosh I think us parents are going to have more fun then the kids. Because after egg coloring, the parents are going for our bowling night. Another tradition is the Easter Bunny makes a maze for the kids to find their baskets. Each basket is attached to a colored string and it is wound all through the house. So the kids have to find the string with their name on it and trace it until they find the hidden basket. We used to go to church at 7am, then to B's Gma's for lunch then my mom's for dinner. But this year, it's just to my mom's for lunch. I know we are horrible for not going to church. Maybe we'll change our mind and go to the 10am. IDK

4. Do you get Good Friday off?  If so, any plans?
Um, yes because I'm a full time college student. Today we had 3 of our 4 kids in a 3v3 soccer tournament. It was fun. Now it's checking blogs and doing homework for the rest of the night while my kids hang out with their friends here at home.

5. Did you wear hats & white shoes to church on Easter? (Or was that just in the South?)
Nope. Most of the time it's black heels and pony tail hair. I know, I know. Oh well!

Here's Your Sign!

Found this online and bought one for my son and one for his best friend. This is perfect for parents with new drivers just getting their learners permit!

Dumb Ass!

Ugg! I drank a little too much last night and now I have a horrible headache, nausea & feel like crap! This was such a dumb ass move because I am getting a mole removed this morning. (Actually in the waiting room right now). I surely didn't need to be feeling like shit on top of nerves. I am such a big baby when it comes to needles & stitches. My hands are sweating, head pounding & wanna puke. Nice job dipshit!

Havin' A Frickin' Heart Attack!

My son is driving to drivers training & I am gonna have a heart attack. I was fine last time because my husband was with us & sat in the passenger seat, while I sat in the back. Tonight it's just me and Alec. Holy shit I am one nervous mama!

Fact of life lesson (s):
1. I didnt realize how vulnerable I would feel not having control of the car as son was driving.
2. Parents of student drivers need a sign for their car as caution to other driver's or we need to be allowed to ride intoxicated!

UPDATE: Alec did GREAT driving. The drive home wasn't as nerve wrenching!

All Dress Up, Party Time

Tonight was my daughters' last Daddy/Daughter Dance. Their Aunt Ariel did their hair, which they thought was the best thing in the world! But can you believe that they were most excited to count the number of bobby pins she used? Weirdos! Then I had fun doing their nails and makeup. They looked beautiful and yes I am bias! How bittersweet, last dance with their Dad until, yikes - their wedding.

Fact of life learned: Girls grow up way too fast. Crap, I am not ready for more maturing..

P.S. Their Dad didn't look too bad himself ;)

Clear The Roads - New Driver

My oldest son got his 'pink slip' for driver's training tonight, so I let him drive home. As we were pulling out of the school his best friend said, 'please tell my parents I love them and can I get a pee bucket?!" He is doing fabulous! I am such a proud mom!

Facts of life, I have a 15 yr old who is driving, holy shit!

P.S. (under my breath) please don't crash my Denali!

Irish Car Bomb Pretzel Truffels

Made these truffles for bowling in honor of St. Patty's Day. Yummy!
Fact of Life learned: Sometimes you shouldn't alter a good recipe! they didn't turn out as well as I thought they would. Next time I won't add the whiskey & Irish Cream. Damn it!

My "Baby" & The Facts of Life!

My baby boy (who will be 13 in two weeks) came home today with nothing but the giggles and a smile so wide it reached ear to ear. Then he said, "Mom guess what?" IDK! With my kids, it could be anything. He said, "I kissed Kaitlyn." "WHAT?!" Then with a shit-eating-grin, he says, "On the lips." OMFW!!! My baby got his first leason in the facts of life; his first kiss. So being the mom I am, I had to lighten the mood by asking:
"Did your breath stink?"
"Did her's?"
"NO, MOM!"
"Did you have to stand on your tip toes to kiss her?" (She is taller then him!)
"Not really."
"So did you get butterflies in your stomach? How'd you feel? What happened? OMGosh, did you get in trouble? She break up with you after?"
"My legs got shakey and my face got warm. No I didn't get into trouble. And no we didn't break up."

Then I hear yelling from the basement, "Yeah isn't that crap? He got his first kiss before me! I know life's not fair." That would be my 15 yr. old son - admittedly jealous of his little brother. I felt bad for my oldest, but so happy for my younger boy. I am grinning ear to ear and crying happy tears. My baby is growing up! WOW!

Smile It's Friday :)

It's Friday! Great day yesterday, me time tonight and date night tomorrow night. Loving it!!!

It figures, today is my day off of classes and I'm sick; low-grade fever, runny nose, sinus pressure and headache. Yes, I know, karma's a bitch. Well, this chick is kicking karma's ass! I took Sine-Off, Menthol Afrin, put on my imaginary Wonder Woman Cape and started Friday cleaning; garbage out, bathrooms cleaned, dishes swapped out and am revving up for my workout then off to the store to get St. Patty's Day food and treats! I'm planning on our typical corned beef and cabbage dinner with Irish soda bread and Irish car bomb cupcakes. Gonna make extra cupcakes/bread to take for bowling on Sat. night. Looking forward to bowling night and having some fun. Only bad thing is my son has drivers training at 7am Sun. morning. Ugg! Since we bowl with his best friend's parents, us ladies are considering pulling an all-niter ;) Yeah, right! Facts of life lesson: this lady has a hard time lasting till 8:30. So our bowling from 9-12ish at night is a huge feat for me. But one can try!

So Crystal, rest up and let's have some fun Sat. night! We can pretend to be Irish!

Still Learning The Facts of Life

I decided to change the name of my blog. Stumbling Upon Life was a good title but not inspiring to me anymore. How I came across the new name is; the other day my oldest son (15) and his friend were in the car after drivers training talking about some facts of life stuff. Then like a movie, background music started playing in my head. It was the theme song to the the 80's show, The Facts of Life. Do you remember that show? I watched it as a girl and loved it. So, me being me, I starting thinking about the meaning of the facts of life and what it meant at that moment listening to the boys talk, what it meant back in my youth and honestly, what it still means today. Then I couldn't let the song go without looking up the words and finally googling the definition of "fact of life".  Here's what I found:

"any aspect of human existence that must be acknowledged or regarded as unalterable, ex: Old age is a fact of life." and "an unavoidable truth, especially an unpleasant one".

Now there's a grown up version of the facts of life for us. It's not just about the birds and the bees, after all. It's about life in general. The song sums it up pretty well. don't you think? "You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have, the facts of life."

No one told me that at 40, I would be learning more about the facts of life then I did as a teen!

So here's to sharing with you, what I'm (still) learning about the facts of life...
