This Moment...

{this moment}

. . . . . . . . .

A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week.
A simple, special, extraordinary moment.
A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.
Inspired by Little Miss Momma & SouleMama
I have to add words to this picture because it makes me cry to see it. July 9th last summer, my dad suffered two ruptured brain aneurysms and one bulging. He shouldn't be alive today, let alone building a floating dock this past weekend.
So this is my moment of the week; my father still here with me!
You can read his story here.

Five Question Friday Link Up

We have a contest in our house to see who can be the first one to say "happy last day of..." and "happy first day of..." Can you believe that tomorrow is June? Wow! You know what that means right? Only six months until Christmas! Sorry, had to put that out there because right now I would love a little cooler weather and the heat season hasn't begun yet in MI. Ick. Well it's TGIF and that means we get to link up with My Little Life for her Five Question Friday.

Copy and paste these questions to your blog or website and then head over to My Little Life and link up. Have a great weekend everyone!

1. What is an acceptable age for girls to start dating?

2. Do you think your kids should have summer homework?

3. Would you prefer to live without AC or heat?

4. What the worst thing about staying in a hotel? (Besides not being with your family)

5. So, do your kids really get "104 days of summer vacation"?

1. What is an acceptable age for girls to start dating? Does on their wedding day count? I would say high school. It also depends on the boy. If the guys a d.bag then this mama will say, "hell no!". But if he is a nice guy then I may allow it as long as there are other kids going with them. Or, date night for mom and dad too - boom! This would be as a freshman. But sophomore on up, they may get to go alone. :(

2. Do you think your kids should have summer homework? Sure why not? What a fabulous idea!! But knowing my kids, they would get it done right away and then two weeks into vacation be muttering how bored they are.

3. Would you prefer to live without AC or heat? Definitely AC. I don't like being hot, but hate being cold. I resist turning on the AC for as long as I can. Besides, not running the air gives me an excuse to call myself a "hot mama"!

4. What the worst thing about staying in a hotel? (Besides not being with your family) That most hotels want to charge for more then 2 kids. I actually love stays in a hotel. It feels like freedom if that makes sense. Plus it means we are on vacation!

5. So, do your kids really get "104 days of summer vacation"? Nope, unless I miss counted which is probably the case (math stresses me out), my kids get 90 days of summer vacation. My daughter just said "that's stupid!" Dang, I wish I had 90 days of summer vacation again! Oh the things I'd do...

Thursday's This & That

A little this and that about my day yesterday. After my history class I did some grocery shopping. First stop was to Target. My shopping was sidetracked when I found some insulated lunch packs in peach Chevron. What did I do? I snapped a pic and posted it to @skinnymeg31 on Instagram. Okay, totally lost my marbles because I do not know Meg. I just follow her blog and Instagram pics, yet I posted a pic anyways because the Chevron reminded me of her. I'm such a dork. You know what? She replied back. Holy crap, Skinny Meg commented on my pic! That was so sweet, thanks Meg!

What lead to the shopping trip was finding a great heath drink recipe on Little Miss Momma's blog that I decided to try. So after Target I stopped at Wal-Mart to pick up grapes and pears. Proud health mama here ahha, I had the rest of the ingredients at home, yes, even Kale. Boom! Well, I got it all prepped and ready in my blender. Hit blend and NOTHING! Hit pulse. NOTHING! The damn thing wouldn't work. WTH?! Seriously? Oh how I wish I had a Vitamix right about now! Genius that I am, I helped mash the fruits and veggies down with a wooden spoon. I said I was genius right? Yeah, well it worked. The blender decided to eat the spoon, but of course, not the rest of the ingredients. Really? Insult to injury. The good news is that I posted pics on Instagram and @littlemissmomma commented. WOW, two amazing and "famous" ladies replied to me. What a good day. So worth adding a little fiber to my diet. Oh, and the drink is DELICIOUS - no kidding!! Try it yourself here.

Fact of life learned: sometimes it's okay to step out of your comfort zone and reach out to someone you don't know.

After my Green Drink was (successfully) made, it was time for a run. It was a rough start. My feet felt like they had weights on them and the heat and humidity was making it hard to adjust my breathing. It was a pure mental game to keep going. Well I got half way through the one foot in front of the other torture and wouldn't you know it, the infamous Shark Week began. Really? Now? Why didn't it air last week? And here I was worried that I was going to have the runs (no pun) from the Green Drink. Just my luck! Now what? I do what any insane and desperate person would do, jumped into the weeds, took off a footie and used it as a pad till I got back. Oh come on people, don't judge. I did what I had to do. It was either that or give free advertisement down my leg. No thanks, I take the footie. The whole rest of the run I kept thinking, "oh please don't fall out, and especially not when the kids' bus goes by!"

Fact of life learned: if you think you might start while out on a run, be protected dingdong!

Hey, It's Okay,

Here's another link up that is fun to hook up with. This comes from Airing My Dirty Laundry One Sock At A Time. Post some things that to YOU is OKAY to think, say and/or do.
Because hey, it's OKAY... use a $3.00 box of color to touch up my gray's because I'm too cheap to pay $70 every 4 wks. pray the thunderstorm keeps up so soccer practice is cancelled for tonight. wait in the car for my boys to get off the bus and give them a ride up the driveway since it's storming. So what that they are 7th & 9th grade - they are still my babies! have to touch up my roots AGAIN with the leftover mix because my gray is stubborn & I missed some spots.
...that I am counting down the days until the kids are out of school because I'm SO TIRED of the girl drama with my 5th grade girls.
What I tell the girls' each morning when I drop them off at school
...that my abs are so sore because I'm participating in the 300/30 Abs & Core Challenge
enjoy a glass of Three Lakes Strawberry Rhubarb wine after dinner which was ravioli, bread & butter and sliced tomatoes (don't judge - it was comfort food) :)

1) I picked up an item from my neighbor's garage sale for $20, then sold it on Ebay for $935.

2) My favorite cold food is left over venison heart and liver.

So What Wednesday

So What Wednesday
Here's a link up with Shannon at Life After I "Dew".

This week I'm saying SO WHAT if...
...I hid my dark chocolate and sea salt caramel Ghirardelli chocolate under the veggies in the freezer so my kids wouldn't find it.

...I still laugh at reruns of Duck Dynasty.

...I haven't shaved my legs in 2 days because I'm too damn lazy and way to tired to waste a good shave.    :) 7th grader pretends to believe in the Tooth Fairy because he doesn't want to disappoint his mom by admitting he knows.

...the real reason my 7th grader won't admit he knows about T.F. is because he really just wants the $1. Raise your standards dude! Christmas I wait for the real Santa to come and give me that kid magic of Christmas back again. Maybe that's why our 4 Elf of the Shelf dolls are still sitting in our living room - because mom can't say goodbye!

...I got a 75% on my history test this Spring semester because I am brain fried with 3 classes (9 credits) for an 8 wk semester. I can work with that score and do better next time.

...I splurge on hot coffee and s'mores at the campfire this weekend.

...I chase the coffee and s'mores with Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Cider.

...I end this post and go to bed.

Hey, It's Okay...

Here's another link up that is fun to hook up with. This comes from Airing My Dirty Laundry One Sock At A Time. Post some things that to YOU is OKAY to think, say and/or do. Because hey, it's OKAY!

Hey, It's okay...

... to hate boob sweat when sitting at track meets and soccer games - even though I have less then a handful of boob.

... to wanna claw your ankle off because a mosquito bit you two days ago and it still itches that much.

... to not watch Glee, So You Think You Can Dance and America's Got Talent.

... tell your daughters no they can't shave with a real razor because it makes YOUR stomach nauseous thinking about them cutting themselves. So their brother's electric razor is still tool of choice.

... for the Tooth Fairy to hide the notes in backpacks, shoes, car and other unique places because she didn't get to the pillow in time!

... to love Si! "Hey, Jack! Happy, happy, happy!"

Two Truths & A Lie Tuesday Link Up

 photo 2truths_zpsbc0b3cf3.jpg
On Rachael Ray the other day, she had a segment with Lucy Lu. Rach asked Lu had to give two truths about herself and one lie, then Rach had to decide which were true and which was a lie.
Ding, ding, ding! What a clever idea for a link up!
So after some research (thanks Hubby Jack for the tutorial!),
To participate, copy and paste the above button onto your blog and tell us three facts about yourself:

 2 being TRUTHS  and 1 a LIE.

Then jump back here to link up so everyone can check out your blog and try to figure out what's true and what you are hiding. Most importantly...HAVE FUN!!!
1) When I was younger we used to go camping every summer with a group of families. One year my sister got an electric shock when she stepped into the motor home. It was so bad she couldn't let go of the handle and kept yelling, "I'm being shot!". We all just sat there laughing until we realized she was saying "shocked".

2) I had a shot of tequila with my scrambled eggs and toast this morning. Am I an alcoholic? NO! But I don't have to go anywhere and ya know what? I wanted one.

3)  When traveling, the first thing I do when I enter the hotel room is go over to the window, fling open the blinds, and flash my tah-tahs.

Keep Calm - Long Weekend Coming

Can I tell you that I am counting down the days until we head to the lake? My Heaven on Earth is almost here. It's almost time for sitting on the dock of the lake. Wait, have to put the dock in first. Okay, so I will take sitting on the deck with a campfire, chili, s'mores and 80's music playing. Maybe even a little Yucca would be yummy. And my favorite time, first thing in the morning before the house becomes crazy, sitting all by myself on the dock or deck with a cup of coffee and book. Oh how I wish that type of peace could last all day long. Maybe it's good it doesn't because then I'd miss out on watching the kids night fish and play flashlight tag. Calm, calm, calm, only 2 days left!

Five Question Friday Link Up

It's finally Friday - let's celebrate with a fun link up. Happy weekend everyone!

Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, and LINK UP on My Little Life

1. Do you have a doppelgänger?

2. Do you keep your car cleaned up?

3. What is a current fashion that drives you crazy.

4. How often do you go grocery shopping?

5. What has been the best surprise of your life?

1. Do you have a doppelgänger? First, WTH is a doppelgänger? Since I didn't know, I looked it up: "German for look-alike, literally a 'double goer'". Good Lord I sure hope not. That would be bad luck for that person. No beauty contest winner there. Hey wait, do my twin girls count? If they do, then yes. "Lady A" especially looks like me. Sorry sis!

2. Do you keep your car cleaned up?  Um, well, I try! Not successfully, but I try. It's kind of like washing your car. It rains right after you pay the $5 for the wash job. Every time I clean the Yukon, the kids decide to clean their soccer bags out and leave the crap in the car for mom. Doesn't it seem like the car is always the messiest when someone is around when the door is open. Like today for instance. I dropped the girls at school and thunk, an empty water bottle fell out. Guess it's time to clean up again. Thanks for the question as a kick in the arse.

3. What is a current fashion that drives you crazy? Panty lines! That is probably my biggest pet peeve. Maybe that's why I choose thongs. A couple other fashion trends that drive me crazy are: females in SHORT shorts. Really? Do you need to show your butt cheeks in shorts? You're in shorts, not a bathing suit. Skinny jeans when guys wear them. Dude, your junk is showing. Maybe it's just me, but I don't find that sexy at all. Leave something to the imagination. The last crazy for me is those ugly high top shoes the guys wear. UGLY!!

4. How often do you go grocery shopping? More then I should. I'm at Wal-Mart more times then I can count getting stuff we ran out of and no one thought to tell the "maid" the other 80 times she battled the lines at Wally World. But to actually grocery shop with meats, etc. it's about be once every other week.

5. What has been the best surprise of your life? How about in the delivery room when we finally found out; Baby 1) "it's a boy" (Yes! No dresses, nails, curling hair), Baby 2) "it's a boy-look at the blonde hair" (blonde? What? No, put him back, that's not my kid), Babies 3 & 4) "it's a girl" & "it's a girl" (Oh shit we are in big trouble!).  Or maybe it was when we got pregnant for the girls' the 1st time without protection and found out it was twins and we didn't use fertility methods. If none of those count, it would be that I can still walk on my hands the full length of the basement in one shot!

Logged My Miles

I put in my miles today while the girls were at soccer practice. I started off feeling 'ugg this sucks. Gonna walk as soon as I get to ...' but then i get there and start to walk and realized, I am NOT a walker. I even tried to speed walk and said nope, run sister. So I ran!

3.5 miles in 31:09 mins.

Do ever think to yourself, 'I will go this way today' because it's shorter? But then go the longer way and didn't even have to talk yourself into it because you already knew in your soul you were taking the long road?

Yellow Car - SCORE!

Does your family play that game where you see a yellow car and yell, "Score"? It's a non stop game my family plays. Even while watching TV. We have been playing it so much, and for so long, that I noticed I call out "SCORE" in my head even when I am alone. Der!

If you're not familiar with it, these are the rules our family plays by: when anyone sees a yellow car, they yellow "SCORE". It can be any shade of yellow and cannot be a car that someone else has already called. If a car is called that someone else already claimed, you loose 5 imaginary points. If you call a yellow Camaro or Mustang, you get 10 extra imaginary points. Service vehicles like buses, taxis, tow trucks, semi's do not count as yellow cars.

The game is ALWAYS on, unless otherwise agreed by ALL players.

This game can also be played by punching someone in the arm when they see a yellow car. But we altered it because we knew the kids would use all their might to whack each other!

So what type of family games do you play? Slug bug? Alphabet? License plate?

Accountability & Claustrophobia Attack

Here is a collage of my run, eats & weight today. I don't want to hear anything about the weight. I know it's not bad, but for me @ 4'11" and sporty, that's thin - NOT in shape! And Lori of FATTOFIT41, I will abide by your rule of not weighing all the time. But today I wanted a starting point & to be accountable. So here goes my breakdown of today so far...

2 eggs scrambled with spinach & topped with avocado & 2 tsp hot salsa and 1/2 piece of honey wheat toast, 2 cups of coffee, glass of Sassy water and my daily vitamin/iron/fish oil/glucosamine. (Damn old age!)

Snack at break during history class was 1/2 a protein bar and bottle of water.

Run after class: 2.6 miles in 24:01 mins. Had to stop once on last mile because i had a slight claustrophobia attack. The tree buds are flying and one came towrd me and all I could imagine was sucking it up my nose & not being able to breath. Yep, sent me into omgosh look at all of them, can't breath!! So I stopped turned around & calmed down. felt like such a doofas that I had to take pics of the bud that landed on my knee. Don't look to close or you may see I need to shave. Yikes!

Lunch was a hard boiled egg, unsalted almonds, a pear, 1/2 cheese stick, carrots and bottle of water.
Now to study for my African history exam tomorrow and make a Sociology post by 11:59 tonight.

Dinner tonight is eating on way to soccer game. Any suggestions on healthy fast food? That sounds like an oxymoron!

Growing from Boys to Men

My son plays for Waza North 00 Black soccer team. The majority of the team has been together for several years, so the bond they have with each other is evident on the soccer field and off. When you are watching them on the field it's easy to forget they are just boys competing for a State Cup Championship. When you hear a grown man who know nothing about soccer and is only there because it's his step-grandson playing say "wow these guys are good! How did they do that?", that says something right there about how talented this group of boys are. Yes, just boys. But on Mother's Day Sunday, they showed they are growing into real "men" when they surprised their moms after taking home the championship at the Novi Jags tournament. I added two other videos that were made for motivation the day before they began their State Cup run. The boys have made it to the Elite 8 and play on Sunday in the Quarter finals. GO WAZA!!!

Five Question Friday Link Up

Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then head back to My Little Life and link up ~

1. What's the one personal hygiene thing you will not do in front of your spouse?

2. What's your favorite thing about a newborn?

3. When is "too young" to have a Facebook account?

4. What are your hoping for for Mother's Day?

5. What was the best field trip you ever took in school?

1. What's the one personal hygiene thing you will not do in front of your spouse? Wipe my arse. Probably goes along with the fact that I poop and fart in privacy. Oh, sorry, "pass gas" as my Grandma would say. I don't even "pass gas" in front of my kids. I am mortified if I have to go anywhere other then the privacy of my own bathroom.

2. What's your favorite thing about a newborn? How peaceful and angelic they look.

3. When is "too young" to have a Facebook account? 99 years old! Just my personal opinion but I think as a whole, all pro's and con's weighed out, Facebook creates more problems then good.

4. What are your hoping for for Mother's Day? Fresh, warm kettle corn! We have a soccer tourney this weekend for 3 of the 4 kiddos. Can't think of a better way to spend Mother's Day - unless it was on the beach!

5. What was the best field trip you ever took in school? I would have to say Science Camp in 6th grade. There was team building activities, bog walking, huge bonfires each night w/stories & songs, archery and canoeing. Oh yeah, and my very first crush! Danny went to another school and I saw him on the stairs and my stomach flipped. I got butterflies every time I saw him for the next 3 years. Those were the days :)

Finish the Sentence Linkup

Finish the sentence linkup with Jake and Holly. Grab the button, copy/paste the questions and link up on either of their sites. They are giving away a gift card for the funniest replies.

Unlike my sibling (s) (that I love very much)... I chose to be a stay at home mom and unlike them, I don't have my college degree. But I am working on it and only have 1 1/2 yrs left. Busting butt with 9 credits for Spring semester.

Sisterly Love

I was cutting onions for dinner tonight and heard my girls giggling. When I looked outside they were laying on the trampoline having girl talk. It was so sweet to hear them laughing and chit chatting. I hope they realize how blessed they are to have each other, a constant bff, 24/7. It warmed my heart seeing how happy they are!

Starting Fuel

I figure by posting my food intake, it will keep me from snacking & eating crap! Here is my breakfast to fuel my day & workouts: 1 hard boiled egg, cinnamon/raisin English muffin w/Simply Jiff peanut butter topped with banana slices & a 15 oz. glass of Sassy water.

Monday, May 6, 2013

I have been trying to motivate my ass to getting back into shape. In Dec '11/Jan.'12 I was the healthiest I have ever been in my life. I dropped from my heaviest, an out of shape 117 lbs to a strong, bikini confident, stand up paddle board brave 97 lbs! Now before you judge me, I am only 4' 11". So that is not a bad weight for me. It was all done the healthy way; no dieting, lots of exercise and healthy food and lots of water. But unfortunately, like so many other people have happen, life got in the way, and threw me off course. Now all that hard work and achievement from a morning P90 workout and afternoon run was shot to hell in a hand basket. 11.5 of those lbs found their way back to my thighs and stomach. It's a sad sight and my bikini is packed away for another day.

But thanks to a couple ladies whose blogs I have been following, I am motivated to get back to that 97-100 pounds and be even stronger then I was just over a year ago. I will be 41 in August and want to hit it in fabulous shape!!! Maybe the Vegas trip that didn't happen for my 40th will happen for 41?! So thank you to Lori of Fat To Fit 41 who is inspiring me to kick my ass in gear and workout. I hope I can look even half as good as you look when I turn 41. Keep up the great work.

May 1st was the start of working out again. I've been logging 2.5-4.8 miles every day, but need to throw in either the p90, JM 30 Day Shred or JM Body Revolution. Snacking on crap food is over. There is the Flat Belly Diet, Sassy Water (mix of water, ginger, cucumber, lemon and mint) in the fridge ready for each morning. And I have been eating a small healthy breakfast, and adding more fruits/veggies to my meals. So I hope that will help me get back to my goal. That's what I did before and it worked great. It's just getting my ass motivated and staying motivated. I know it could be worse, but I don't want it to so I've got to move it, move it!

Today's run was 4.18 with a time of 30:34 - and I didn't even stop. But oh hell I sure wanted to. Good thing I had to run by people's houses that I knew so it was a mental game of them not seeing me walk. Gonna add the extra workout tomorrow. Trust me, there is NO dieting involved. It is not what I believe in. Hard work, strength, determination and good eating is what I want to be the factor of my fitness goal. Goal for 41 - bikini in Vegas!

Monday Motivation - Have Fun!

Ugg, it's Monday. And if you're one of the norm, it's not something you are excited about. It means back to work, or school or even bills. Heaven knows that I am not excited on Monday's. Monday's can be a motivation zapper. So how about we take some time to change that and get motivated?

Do something today just for the sake of your own enjoyment. Recharge and rejuvenate yourself. It is a necessary activity that feeds and nourishes us on a soul level. Have some fun this week and enjoy the benefits it produces in virtually every other aspect of your life. Even if you dedicate just a half hour or hour this week to letting go and having fun, the benefits will be felt in your mind, body and spirit.

Not sure what to do? Have you skipped in a while? I don't mean school or work. I mean the typing of thing school girls do on the playground. That combination of walking and hopping. I'm not joking - try skipping. My kids asked me if I could and you know what? I FORGOT HOW TO SKIP!
*Side note: Fact of life: if you haven't skipped in a while, try it without anyone around. Or you may end up like my... your kids laughing their asses off watching mom be like, der! So get up and skip to my lou people.

Maybe this type of skipping isn't your cup of tea. How about go sit in the sun for 10 mins and just observe the world around you. How many birds can you count? What shapes are the clouds making? If you close your eyes, what sounds do you hear? Can you make it 10 minutes without being summoned by a family member or without boring yourself to death? Give it a try!

So that type of meditation is out? How about if you have to run an errand today, smile, wink or say hi to strangers. It will make you feel better as you see them smile back. Or if you are twisted like me, it will make you giggle when you see their confused look that says, "Who the heck is that?" You know it will bug them the rest of the night. Giggle as you think about that!

If none of these ideas float your boat, come up with your own Monday Motivation that lets you have some fun, and come back and share it with us!!! Happy Monday ya'll!!
